Well...just a week or so into this new format and I've chosen to delete a comment, even though I 100% agreed with what was said. There's a time and place for everything, but profanity - even mild - won't be tolerated here. Sorry if I offend anyone, but if you can't say it in front of your mom or your kids or in church...don't bother posting it here. I've gone to comment moderation as well.
Hey, I go borderline ballistic almost every day when I see what's being shoved down our throats by "Big Oil" and their cast of cronies, but I've found that - in the long run - you'll be far more effective redirecting emotion into action than venting your spleen for all to see. If they know they can get to you...they will.
BTW...in reading some comments elsewhere, please be advised I have retained every post ever done on the old SRS website...just didn't have enough ISP memory to keep them online.
Yesterday was devoted to shoveling...today is putting a new ceiling/exhaust fan in an upstairs bathroom. No rest for the h*&#!!%(*^g wicked!

65 MILLION gallons a year?!?!?
That's how much toxic, untreated frackwater Chesapeake Energy wants to pump underground, per year, for the next ten years. Read more about it here.
You can tell a lot about the education and intelligence of someone by how and what they write. I know there are some pretty smart folks bloggin' and readin' out there. I hope they all have a deep well of common sense, too. And are willing to get mobilized...
Does anyone actually believe that pumping millions of gallons of highly toxic wastewater underground is, per Chesapeake's application to the EPA, “the most cost effective and environmentally sound option” out there? We've got some very highly folded and fractured bedrock above and below the Marcellus Shale layer. How long do you think 650 MILLION gallons of untreated fracking wastewater pumped underground will take to migrate to our drinking water supplies? I'm guessing the first signs of contamination will start to surface in less than 5 years.
On second thought, it is probably the cheapest option...right behind dumping it in a local stream on some remote country road at 3 a.m.
These "BIG OIL" folks are having their way, and our politicians and other "leaders" are frozen like deer in the headlights. On 2/12...we must send a very clear message that WE, the People, have reached our boiling point of k(no)w return.
Speaking of hot water - stay tuned. Expecting a package of info any day. Hope it's not ticking...
Almost forgot. I've received numerous e-mails commenting on the recent WVIA "State of Pennsylvania" show about Marcellus Shale. I'm hearing one of the pro-drilling panelist's legs were shaking so much under the table that they had to switch cameras. Problem was...his eyes were twitching as well.
What would cause him to be so darn nervous?

WE, the People...
Mark Your Calendars
On Friday, 2/12/10, as a citizen of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States of America, I will exercise my right to peaceable assembly and free speech.
If you wish to participate, and are willing to travel to central PA...block out that date.
We've heard from the folks from "Big Oil" and their paid consultants. Now it's our turn.
I hope you'll consider joining me. Stay tuned.

Hot Water boils at & on 212...
I've been following this whole Marcellus Shale ploy for quite some time. With my degree in earth and environmental sciences and my experience lecturing on geology and geomorphology, I knew most of the issues surrounding horizontal hydrofracturing well before I got involved in opposing what's going on in the Susquehanna's watershed.
I've attended and spoken at multiple DEC, DEP & SRBC meetings. I've seen enough and heard enough. Now it's time to take it to the streets, and my newest banner will be unfurled for all to see on 2/12.
Details to follow.

I promise...
Hey, folks. My schedule is insane the past week or so, and the earliest I'm going to have some time to study all the bells and whistles of this new site is this weekend...maybe. In the meantime, because I know my other website's application & upload process from A to Z...I'm still posting there. Thanks to Markie for posting some stuff as I make the transition. In gratitude...I promise to do absolutely NOTHING when we approach the Knox Mine whirlpool in June. Heh, heh.
BTW - WVIA-44 is hosting a show this Thursday about the whole Marcellus Shale frenzy. I cannot make it, but should anyone decide to call in, please ask this question: "Is there any 100% impermeable and 100% unfractured layer of bedrock between the Marcellus Shale and our drinking water aquifers?" If they answer yes...they are lying. It seems they've only invited folks who earn a living from or support the drilling industry to be guest speakers. Sounds fair to me...not. Folks...please fry their switchboards! I think it starts at 7 p.m.
Finally...what's now being proposed for Moon Lake Park is a back-door deal if I ever heard of one. Time for some new blood under the dome. Hmmmm...let me rephrase that. Time for Petrilla to be ousted.
And one more thing...I'm planning a 3 day-100 mile paddle around Earth Day in April. I'm opening the front seat of my tandem to the winner of a contest I will announce here. Stay tuned...
