Concord Hymn: April 19, 1775 - January 7, 2026

CONCORD HYMN

***

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
    Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
    And fired the shot heard round the world.

The foe long since in silence slept;
    Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
    Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.

On this green bank, by this soft stream,
    We set to-day a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
    When, like our sires, our sons are gone.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare
    To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
    The shaft we raise to them and thee.

by Ralph Waldo Emerson - April 19, 1836

Yesterday...on American soil, in an American state, in an American city, on an American street in an American neighborhood...an American citizen - 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good - was shot and killed.

And - as expected - starting with Donald John Trump (a/k/a Donald John the Lesser) and his cadre of spineless sycophants...Renee was vilified, trashed, and so on down the predictably obfuscatory path liars always take.

I watched the videos of her murder last night and this morning. I need see no more.

If you ever wondered what "leadership" with no ethical or moral compass would look like...check out today's headlines. Or yesterday's. Or tomorrow's.

Mid-terms can't come soon enough.

Until then...
