Several years ago, I sent a brief e-mail to a fellow paddler and blogger about the expanding exploitation of the Marcellus Shale. It went something like: "This is gonna get ugly."

So here I am, getting ready to protest one of my favorite paddling events on a river that I've fought very hard to protect for many, many years. It was not an easy decision, but it's one I believe is the right thing to do.

I'm not expecting much support from my fellow "river advocates" on this one. Truthfully, I'm expecting to be attacked for my decision to protest RiverFest from many of them. Hey...whatever floats your boat.
