Attorney says: We must let them use our water!

As I was perusing recent Marcellus-related posts and blogs yesterday, I tripped across the following quote in an article written by an attorney from a law firm in Harrisburg:

"It also means that we must permit the gas drillers to drill, to use our water..."

All I will offer is that I had one helluva workout after that one. Truthfully, it was a great free advertisement if her firm is looking to tap into the Marcellus-related business out there. Or perhaps, they already have.

Now that I've made the mistake of rereading the article, and the sun is just about up, I need to take a long, long walk. I guess I am finally reaping the benefits of the Marcellus Shale Madness; the need to vent my growing rage through increased physical exercise.

One last article absolutely deserves mention before I lace-up and hit the pavement. Seems the Chesapeake Bay Foundation ruffled a few feathers at the first meeting of Team Tom-Tom's Marcellus Advisory Commission yesterday.

Way to go, CBF!

Happy Saturday morning!

  1. Missing the forest for the trees, Sossong's myopic vision ignores the fact that youth leave PA for "greener" pastures and jobs are gone b/c PA was built on resource extraction w/ a Boomtown mentality during the coal age. Nothing was left when the resource was depleted. A few got very wealthy - the coal barons - and took their $$$ elsewhere. PA wilted. Now she wants to repeat this same scenario in a state with very few workers under age 45. Go figure who's getting the jobs. The wealth created by drilling is a false wealth benefiting only corporations and the 2% of Pennsylvanians who are privately leasing THEIR land. Their $$$ isn't staying here. She is a shill of the industry like so many others touting its "benefits". What will be the true economic benefit to the Commonwealth after the production curves have peaked in maybe 10-15 years? Where will the next "play" be to which the drillers head off?

  2. Nice to see Lee Ann Murray on the CBF staff. When looking for a drilling-knowledgeable person in H'Brg last year on the ex-Speakers' (Todd Eachus) staff, I found her. She obviously understands local govt. and it is heartening to see someone like her leaving state govt. for a position other than one as highly paid advocate for the industry as many DEPers do.
