Engelder: Merry Christmas, America

This post's title came directly from one of the recent articles about Marcellus Shale drilling in National Geographic.

Well Doc...Bah Humbug to you.

You know damn well the geology of northeastern PA, and pretty much the entire region underlain by the Marcellus Shale formation, is a disaster in the making. The bedrock, being highly folded and fractured to begin with, is a vast, interconnected web of cracks and fissures from the surface all the way down to the Marcellus Shale and beyond. Put another way, the chemical-laden waters pumped underground as part of the hydrofracturing process won't be staying down there forever. And on their way up, they will eventually but nonetheless definitely reach our aquifers.

And then, we're all scrooged. Dimock is just the beginning.

I'll end this brief post by adding one letter to a direct quote in the article from Terry Engelder:

“It’s going to be a real t(h)reat.”
For once, I agree with the man.

Next up, my thoughts on our governor wannabe - Tom Corbett.

Nice shades, Mr. Corporate.
