Free Methane in Bradford County

 

 Okay, folks. First, we start with the science.

To summarize; there is an incredible amount of methane, i.e. an odorless and colorless gas, oozing out of the ground 24/7 in the tri-county area covered by this survey. It is following pathways in the bedrock extending thousands of feet underground  that have existed for - perhaps - millions of years.

This is not wild conjecture; the report linked above proves it.

It is getting into the well water. It is being breathed by anyone/everyone that lives in the area. And it's not stopping anytime soon, thanks to the increased pressure underground created by the hydraulic fracturing process.

In other words, what goes down must will come up.

As I continue to watch what's going on in Bradford County, I wonder what the long-term health affects are of breathing in not only elevated levels of methane, but anything else that may be wafting out of the ground 24/7 all along the Rte. 414 corridor.

You can't see it. You can't smell it. But it's there.

The natural gas industry does not care about people.

It cares about one thing and one thing only...

Money.

To all:

 

I realize there are a lot of folks out there that do not understand the science surrounding this issue; i.e. the intimately connected web of regional geology, hydro-fracturing, plate tectonics...ad infinitum.

I understand that, which is why I'm writing this specific post. 

 

Once I witnessed and recognized what was happening in Bradford County all along Rte. 414 in late May 2012, I knew I had to do something. I dropped a grand of my own money to fund the report linked above.

 

I gained nothing from it, except the knowledge that I did what I could to help get the word out.

 

As a long-time environmental advocate/activist who was studying this science-type stuff almost 40 years ago and who has quite a few green notches on my eco-belt, I believe most, not all...but most of the "leaders" of the anti-fracking masses out there are basically clueless...okay, okay - since it is Sunday - do not fully comprehend the issues - and are hurting their cause every time they open their mouths in front of those that do.  

 

And I am getting increasingly weary of watching and trying to help.
