"Hey, you look great."
"You're not limping."
"We didn't expect you back until next year."
Those are the comments I continue to hear from folks I work with or know personally that have not seen me since my double quad rupture on 13 Jan 2013.
However, from the inside, I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to walk normally again. Or run...even at a slow pace. At times, my knees still feel like a mass of tight rubber bands, my muscle mass has still not returned to where I think it should be, and although I know my legs are getting measurably stronger almost daily, it's not happening fast enough for me.
All the medical experts I've spoken with that are overseeing my rehab point to the one-year mark (post surgery) as the point at which I'll pretty much be "back" as far as I'll ever be. And as I respect their expertise, I will do my best to be a little more patient and continue to work with my P/T and others over the next 3+ months.
January 14, 2014 will be here before I know it, and the three words that I just absolutely refuse to be muttering on that day are woulda, coulda, shoulda...
It's time to stoke the fire in the basement one more time.
And it's time to dust off some old training routines...
