American Rivers is probably the top conservation group on the planet that focuses on protecting and restoring our nation's rivers, so I was happy to see that their latest campaign is targeting the Susquehanna River Basin Commission. Read more about it here.
Please take a few minutes to complete the form and send it off so that Mr. Paul Swartz ( Executive Director of the SRBC ) has a rather full Inbox when he arrives on Monday morning. By rubber-stamping almost every water withdrawal application submitted by the natural gas industry, I believe the SRBC is a major contributor to the ongoing degradation of the Susquehanna's watershed.
For this weekend's post I offer some pics of Bowmans Creek, a tributary of the Susquehanna River in northeastern PA. I have fished these waters for over three decades. There are at least two SRBC-approved withdrawal sites on this stream for natural gas "well completion", and considering there is no USGS gauge on this coldwater fishery to provide accurate historical streamflow data, that's two too many in my opinion.
Enjoy your weekend. Happy Easter.

Seriously folks, does this stream look deep enough to be approved for water withdrawals at two locations? PLEASE write to the SRBC to demand a moratorium on water withdrawals using American Rivers' quick-n-easy portal today.
Thanks.
