On November 3, 2010, as gas industry executives gather in Pittsburgh, for the DUG Conference, residents from throughout the Marcellus Shale region, will come together to express their concern over the region’s current, virtually unchecked Marcellus gas drilling blitz.
The Nov. 3 Rally is organized by Marcellus Protest, [www.marcellusprotest.org], an alliance of people from western PA who are building a broad movement to stop the destruction of the environment and communities caused by Marcellus Shale gas drilling.
The Rally begins at 1 p.m., outside of the David Lawrence Convention Center. Speakers include people who are living with Marcellus drilling near their homes, schools and parks, as well as farmers, city residents, musicians, scientists and more. [Speakers are still being confirmed, a list will be provided next week.]
As the Rally begins, the DUG Conference’s Key Note speaker, Karl Rove, will be addressing conference attendees inside the Convention Center.
The Nov. 3 Rally is a grassroots effort, staffed by volunteers. Most of the funding has come from ‘passing the hat’ at events, fund raisers and online donations made by concerned citizens.

I attended a PennAction event last weekend in Harrisburg. From a well-known and well-connected source, we were told that Tom Corbett would be high tailing it out to Pittsburgh on Nov. 3, the day AFTER our election, to be a key participant in the conference. As if his stance on any tax weren't bad enough, this portends ominously for us living breathing drinking Pennsylvanians. IMO it is more important to vote this year than ever. You may not care for the options, but Corbett as Gov. would hand our lives over to the gas industry forever. How about it that Phillip Anschutz just sold his O&G interests including PA, OH and NY to an undisclosed buyer for $3 BILLION! The real big money has been made, his "play" has played out and Corbett thinks we should give the industry a "break" for start-up costs? The man is the devil incarnate.
