To all:
My rehab is progressing nicely. On Tuesday, they recalibrated my braces to allow for 30 degrees of flex in both legs, and although I definitely have a long way to go after having both legs locked straight for 4 weeks...the anticipated pain did not materialize, and I did not crumble to the floor when I took that first step.
Another imaginary benchmark surpassed.
For those that have been following this blog, and its prior versions dating back to 1999, you know that on Valentine's Day 2008, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers denied the application to build an inflatable dam on the Susquehanna River near Wilkes-Barre, PA. About 35 days later, the proposed inflatable dam was finally put to rest by the Luzerne County Commissioners.
And the celebrations began.
In addition to the standard V-Day celebratory gestures every year, I always take a few minutes to remember the time, effort and strategies it took to shut down the ~twenty-year pipe dream of a 12+ term U.S. Congressman...and how it felt when the door was finally slammed shut.
Don--your spirit and your spunk are inspirations for me and so many others. The first photo of you with your kayak paddle raised high was a determined, fighting cheer for the Susquehanna River, the environment, and water quality. The last photo of you with a crutch raised high shows for all the dogged determination that you will triumph, again, for yourself, your wife, kids, family and friends. I admire you, respect you, and treasure you. Thanks for being my friend.
