19 for 19 v. 3 for 3

My son is home on spring break, and just received another letter from his school that he made the Dean's list for the Fall Semester. So far, he's 3 for 3 on the Dean's list...and counting.

My two older daughters both went 8 for 8 while in college, with one making the "Exceptional" Dean's list twice. Both were inducted into every Honors Society available to them, with my oldest becoming a member of Phi Beta Kappa, which has been around since 1776. Both young ladies are working full-time and well on their way in what will hopefully be long and rewarding careers.

I bring this up, not only as a proud father, but also as a reflective juxtaposition of what hard work, dedication and results should get you vs. what happens in the real world in 2011.

Last week, it became known that C. Alan Walker, an energy executive that happened to contribute $184,000 to Tom Corbett's political campaigns since 2004, will possibly have the authority to make decisions for every state agency, including the DEP and DCNR. As the language reads, he will have the authority to: "expedite any permit or action pending in any agency where the creation of jobs may be impacted."

Now, C. Alan Walker - a coal company executive - has been nominated to be the head of the Department of Community and Economic Development, yet in his tenure running several businesses - including coal companies - three of them "ran out of money!" And this same man is potentially going to be making business decisions that will impact all Pennsylvanians for generations to come? I would love to audit the books of those three companies. Seriously, he's either a damn poor businessman or a liar. I'd like to know which it is, and I've reviewed enough P&L statements in my 30+ year career to be able to figure it out fairly quickly.

If you haven't seen prior articles, read more about it here.

I don't know C. Alan Walker's entire curriculum vitae. I don't care to. What I see is that someone who ran three businesses into the ground, and who also happened to contribute $184K to our new Governor over the years, is being rewarded for political payoffs instead of proven performance. Is this the best Tom Corbett can do to build an "A" Team?

However you slice it, this is just plain WRONG! We should stop C. Alan Walker for being confirmed. Please contact your legislator and put an end to this nonsense.

Anywhooo...enjoy the rest of your weekend.
